A Note From Our CEO

Hello and thank you for reading!

I just wanted to take a moment to say, thank you for believing in us. We have been working tirelessly to implement new features on our platform and improve the ones we already had. For those of you who already work with us, I hope you have seen that working with us has paid off, for both your coaching strategy and your team’s success!Giuseppe_Vinci

Our portal is unlike anything else on the market, and we hope you love it as much as we do. We heard your feedback and made the adjustments to improve what makes our product the best out there. You can now filter in more and more detail, tag players and communicate with them, and much more. To find out what you might be missing, reach out to your account manager or to support@volleymetrics.com to receive free training.

Going forward, we want to continue to earn your trust, loyalty, and share more content with you. To do this, we are starting with increased communication with you via our newsletter. In it we will include important software updates, answers to commonly asked questions, along with a bit of fun. We will continue to be transparent with everything going on here and trust me, there are so many good things we are excited to share with you! We would also like to know if there is anything you think we could do better. 2015 was a great year with Loyola and Nebraska winning national championships with a bit of help from us, and we look forward to 2016!

This Month’s FAQs

  1. This match has been on queue for a while. When will it be finished?
It is likely completed but has not been marked as such. If this is the case, click on the match to see if there is data for it online. If you can see the data online, but cannot download a .dvw file for the match, please email support@volleymetrics.com for a copy of the file.
  2. I am traveling and am locked out of matches because the home team didn’t upload a scoresheet. Can you give me access to matches?
Exchange rules on the VolleyMetrics portal currently make no distinction between the home team and the away team. If any of your videos or scoresheets are missing, you will be restricted from accessing other matches. If you are concerned this might be a problem for you, we encourage you to download any videos you may need before traveling or to upload the scoresheet for your match (even if you are the away team).
  3. I need to upload a video. Is there anything I need to do with the video file(s) before uploading?
For an answer to this question, please visit our support page article, “Preparing Videos for Upload.” http://support.volleymetrics.com/customer/en/portal/articles/2086205-preparing-videos-for-upload]

Software Updates

You may have noticed, but tagging in comments is now available! This has been one of our most requested features, so we are excited to get it in the hands of coaches and players to get your feedback. To tag someone in a comment, simply type the @ symbol, and a list of possible people to tag will appear. Tag as many people in a comment as you would like, and each user will receive a notification. Additionally, you can tag by position such as “@libero” and each libero on your team will receive a notification as well!

A number of teams have given us suggestions related to the downloadable codes we provide, and we have been intensely focused on bringing changes about to improve the data and consistency of those codes. We have a few more things to do here, but you should notice very significant improvements.

We have also received feedback for our online filter, and have release our first batch of improvements. Next time you on on the portal, try filtering by grade (for example type “serve” and “perfect” in the filter area to see aces!)

As always, we appreciate feedback! Email us at support@volleymetrics.com

Stats Team Tournament Predictions

With March representing such a focus on tournaments and outcomes, the VolleyMetrics Stat Team is focusing on the conference tournaments. If the season ended on March 30th, we ran simulations to see how the MPSF, MIVA, and EIVA tournaments would end up.

Analysis Shows an Increase of Serves Leads to a Higher Win Percentage

In the last few weeks, our statisticians at VolleyMetrics have been analyzing matches and trying to find a skill or stat that is highly correlated to winning a match. We’ve analyzed attacking efficiency, side out percentage, and many others, but they have finally found the highest correlation: serving. Serving is one of the most basic skills in volleyball. Every point begins with a serve, and teams can get a big …
