This week’s match of the week consists of two teams in the top 5: #4 Long Beach State vs. #5 Hawaii. Hawaii will be traveling to Long Beach to try and extend their 5-game winning streak. It’s a new calendar year, which means men’s volleyball season is starting to kick off! Ohio State University Men’s Volleyball just won their 2nd NCAA Championship. With Pete Hanson as their coach, this is no surprise. PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Hagen Smith   For the first time this season, a setter is the VolleyMetrics Ratings Player of the Week. Hagen Smith, a 6’0 Junior from California, is one of the two setters UCLA uses in their two-setter offense. He is a duel threat, being able to set with great accuracy, and hit with a high efficiency. PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Brad Gretsch Harvard’s Brad Gretsch came out on top this week in the VolleyMetrics Player of the Week rankings. Match of the Week: #4 UCLA vs. #3 Stanford   UCLA hosts Stanford in LA on Thursday. Both Stanford and UCLA had big matches last week. UCLA lost twice to BYU in Provo while Stanford beat Long Beach and Cal State, Northridge. This caused UCLA to drop from #1 last week to at #4 behind Stanford in the AVCA Coaches Poll this week.
