The Poll Commentary returns after a couple of weeks off and it has certainly been a crazy couple of weeks. When we last left you, Ohio State had become the number one team for the first time all year, BYU had just lost to Pepperdine, and UCLA had made a run for the top spot. The face of the NCAA volleyball competition looks much different now. BYU rebounded from their loss to Pepperdine to beat UCLA twice in Los Angeles. Read More

The poll did not disappoint this week either as we had maybe an even larger shakeup after a weekend of craziness. Penn State extended their losing streak to 4 matches, after 11 straight wins, before finding a win at home against UC Irvine. Those results led to the largest single week drop that we have seen in the polls, a drop of 4 spots to 10th place. Pepperdine cashed in on their recent victories over Stanford and BYU to claim Read More

This week in the AVCA coaches poll we saw one of the biggest shakeups at the top that we have seen this year. All 5 of the top teams last week have a new spot in the polls this week. While the poll isn’t changing much the record books may be changing. If someone has knowledge of what the record is for the longest streak of sets won is VolleyMetrics would like to know. With BYU’s sweep of Hawaii last night, they have won 33 sets in a row, 11 straight sweeps. This is an incredible streak and so for this week’s edition of the poll commentary we decided to look at the teams that are streaking for the tournament. Read More

We once again have a unanimous number one team as UCLA continues to drop in the polls after being the unanimous number one just a few weeks ago. LBSU has certainly earned their top spot by beating highly ranked foes BYU and Stanford and by sweeping many of their other matches. BYU has rebounded from their loss to LBSU with 8 consecutive sweeps and Stanford rebounded with 5 straight wins against ranked opponents, including two victories against No.4 Hawaii and Read More

Some tops teams made some moves this week, specifically Ohio State. They showed that they want to win the MIVA this year by sweeping 2015 NCAA volleyball championship contenders Loyola and Lewis. Ohio State has been the top rated team in the VMRI over the past 3 weeks as they have made a run up the poll. They sit in striking distance of the top 5 and have asserted their intentions of a championship run. However, they are going to Read More

Poll Commentary   This week’s poll shows very little change from the past week as the Ball State, Ohio State and the UCLA, Hawaii matchups were the only matches that made an impact on the rankings. Ball State moved up a spot and Ohio State dropped two spots after BSU defeated OSU in five sets. UCLA lost their top spot in the rankings and Hawaii moved up to fourth after these two teams split matches in Hawaii. However, the data Read More

February 3rd, 2016 This is a week for those teams just outside of the top-10 and the top-15 to be able to make some movement and shake up the rankings. The poll didn’t see much movement this week as top teams won or split matchups this week with only UC Irvine dropping out of the top-10 after their 3rd and 4th straight defeats. However, they remain within striking distance of the top-10 as they face two unranked opponents this week. Read More
