For the second straight week, Minnesota makes it into out Match of the Week. #3 Minnesota will head to Madison, WI this Wednesday to face the #1 team in the country: the Wisconsin Badgers. Wisconsin lost both matches against Minnesota last year, but they look to change things this year. Both teams have been in the top 3 for the last four weeks, and are looking to either keep, or regain the #1 spot in the country. Here is the break down of this matchup in our VolleyMetrics Rating Index:

A visual comparison of each teams’ skills can be seen from the diagram on the right. Our ratings show that these two teams are very similar. They both performed better than the league average on every category except for digging. In the end, Wisconsin is favored with a winning percentage of 54.59% to 45.41%. Home field advantage plays a big part in our ratings, especially in close matches. Wisconsin is currently 5-0 at home, beating two ranked teams in that stretch, while both of Minnesota’s losses have come on the road against ranked opponents. According to our ratings, Minnesota is the #5 best attacking team in the nation, while Wisconsin is the #1 best blocking team. Our winning predictions are close, so Minnesota’s high power offense might have a chance to take down Wisconsin this week.
